Where Are You Going?

A plan for life is important, but few people ever take the time to develop a real plan for getting to where they want to be. This plan can assist you in finding your purpose in life. Without a plan, the purpose may never come to fruition. As you think about what you love to do, want to do, and need to do with your life, think about where you want to do it, with whom you want to do it, and how you want to dress while you're doing it.

That may sound crazy, but think about it for a moment. If you detest suits and ties and scarves, will you ever be happy in a vocation that requires that you wear them on a daily basis? If you love to work indoors in the cool air-conditioned comforts of an office, but your vocation requires that you work on a tar roof somewhere, will you be happy?

A plan for purposeful living can help you see further down the road. It can help you look into the nuts and bolts of your life's work and make choices that are appropriate for you.

As you consider your purpose in vocation, think about the following:

  • Do you prefer physical or mental work?

  • Is it important to you to make a lot of money?

  • Where do you want to live?

  • Do you want to travel?

  • How do you want to dress?

  • What do you value in life?

  • What are your motivators?

  • What are your innate skills and talents?

  • Considering these questions can help you find out where you are going and assist you in developing a plan for purposeful living.
