IF CERTAIN CRITERIA are met, a person with schizophrenia certainly should consider living in her own place or in a family home with relatives. The living arrangements should not impede treatment or contribute to an inability to cope. The patient, for example, should be able to function without being a threat to herself or to others. Her behavior should not disrupt life for those around her so much that they cannot work or otherwise complete activities required for daily living.
