They are medical doctors and doctors of osteopathy who specialize in diagnosing and treating people with psychiatric disorders. There are 36,000 psychiatrists who are members of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), and some of them specialize in treating patients with schizophrenia. Clinical psychologists who earned a doctorate degree and became licensed in clinical psychology are also active in this field, as are various mental health care workers who specialize in different types of therapy.
