Contemporary Saints

Although the question of canonization remains open, these people continue to speak to contemporary times. They used the materials available to them to live faithfully in their own age and place — everything from television to newspaper to knitting needles. And ultimately, through their lives, others were able to glimpse the love of God. As Frederick Buechner wrote, “In his holy flirtation with the world, God sometimes drops a pocket handkerchief. Those handkerchiefs are called saints.”
