Around the world there are numerous men and women at some stage of the canonization process, even if only at the grassroots level. Some have already been beatified, while others are known only through the stories that are told about them. Those waiting to be tapped for sainthood come from a variety of ranks — popes and bishops, nuns and Eastern Orthodox priests' wives.
