How did martyrs get to be saints, anyway? Did someone write down a Christian's name when he or she was slain, adding a note about that individual's bravery as a martyr, and then pass it along to other Christians? Actually, that is something like what actually happened. One did not have to be a martyr, however, to become a saint. This chapter will explore the lives of a few of the earliest saints.
