This chapter features a sampling of familiar, yet surprising, saints. While their names may be recognizable and their holidays are widely celebrated, the details of their lives are often unknown. Likewise, customs surrounding these saints have often become separated from their authentic histories. This chapter will introduce the human lives hidden behind the celebrations, as well as some of the poignant, quaint, and unusual celebrations surrounding these saints.
