Experienced travelers know that language skills increase the enjoyment of traveling and reduce the stress and anxiety of being in an unfamiliar environment. Knowing the correct words and phrases enhances cross-cultural understanding and prevents possible miscommunication. Familiarity with culturally acceptable ways of interacting with locals shows a degree of politeness which Russians will appreciate. This chapter introduces several key words and phrases frequently often heard at border crossings, airports, railway stations, and other means of public transportation.
