Running Socks
Some people tend to take socks for granted, but it only takes one blister to bring your feet to your attention. A general rule in choosing socks is that activities that produce a lot of foot friction require a thicker sock. For example, sports like basketball and racquetball generate a lot of friction and warrant thicker socks. Unless you are running on trails (which can create high friction), you can be comfortable running in a thin sock, but again, go with what feels good to you.
Steer clear of socks made from 100 percent cotton as these will not wick away perspiration or moisture, increasing your chances of getting blisters. There are numerous synthetic fabrics being used today that make socks fit, hold up, and wick away moisture better than ever before (so that you don't have wet feet, which can cause blisters). Look for synthetic blends like those made from polyester, acrylic, or Coolmax®, which are best at wicking away moisture.
There is also no need to suffer with socks that bunch and slip down into your shoes. These will only irritate you while running and may produce some nasty blisters.
