Bringing Your Rottie Home
Bringing your rottweiler home takes a little preparation. Most people like to bring a second person along to help, but this is unnecessary. You will need to bring a crate of the appropriate size to put your rottweiler in when you pick him up.
Don't rely on a family member or yourself to carry your rottweiler while you bring him home. Don't put your rottweiler in a cardboard box and expect him to stay put! Or worse, don't allow him free roam of your car, and never put a dog in the back of an open pickup bed. All of these are recipes for disaster.
Be certain to exercise your rottweiler and give him a chance to relieve himself before putting him in the crate. If he is tired, it is likely he will settle down and sleep while on the way home.
A wiggling puppy can squirm out of your arms and become a distraction to the driver. What's worse is that you don't know how your rottie will respond to the car. He may urinate, defecate, or throw up. (Even adult dogs may do this.) If your puppy tries to do this in his crate, at least it is contained, and the worst that will happen is that he will need a cleaning when he leaves the car. Think “dog” first. Give your rottweiler ample chance to relieve himself before putting him in the car.
