Romantic Gift Givers
We've talked about how being a romantic gift giver means matching the recipient with the cost, intent, and substance of the gift, and aligning all of that with the event in question. Those who are truly talented can incorporate the element of surprise into a repertoire.
When you're truly stuck for ideas, you can always make a donation in a partner's name to a favorite charity. If your friend loves animals, for example, you could make a donation in her name to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or the local humane society. When it's clear your partner has a passion for a charity, one of the nicest gifts to give is time or money to that organization.
The truly romantic gift giver never expects anything in return. Don't give gifts expecting to get something back. The key word in being an effective gift giver is “gracious.” A great gift giver is one who sincerely tries to please the recipient. Most of us have been taught that it is better to give than to receive. Whether you believe that idea, you can derive great joy out of making someone else happy.
