This book is not supposed to be a “how to” manual about sex. Instead, in this chapter, we will look at the relationship between sex and romance. As Dr. David Reuben wrote years ago, in Everything You've Always Wanted to Know about Sex But Were Afraid to Ask, there are at least three basic motives for sex: procreation, recreation, and as a profound expression of love. When you play your cards right, romance is part of all three. All time spent together in one version or another of physical intimacy has the potential for romance. Unfortunately, sometimes there are obstacles to overcome. Let's get them out of the way first.
