Conclusions
When studying this chapter, learn the elements of each lick and try to apply them elsewhere. Elements like sequence, pedal points, and intervals can be applied to any musical situation. Try to use the examples in this chapter as a launching pad for your own imagination. To finish, let's do a monster lick in E minor. See FIGURE 15-21. This lick includes sequence, arpeggios, intervals, and tapping in one mega example.
As you study great guitar solos you'll notice that the players use the techniques and other musical elements that you've learned, and combine them freely to make lines. Don't be a passive listener. When you hear something you like, go back and study it to find out what makes it work. Then you'll be able to understand it and use it in your own way, without copying it exactly. As you can see from this chapter, there's no end to the combinations you can make from elements like scales and arpeggios and chords, and turn into great music.
