Long John Silver's Beer-Battered Fish

The secret to the Long John Silver's taste is the batter they use to dip their fish, chicken, and shrimp into. This recipe is very easy since it uses a prepared mix. The best type of fish to use is cod, tilapia, or trout.

INGREDIENTS | SERVES 2–4

  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 cup McCormick Golden Dipt Beer Batter for Seafood mix
  • 2/3 cup beer
  • 1½ pounds fish fillets
  1. Pour oil into a deep fryer or large heavy skillet, filling no more than 1/3 full. Heat oil to 375°F.

  2. In a medium bowl, stir batter mix and beer until smooth.

  3. Cut fish into serving-size pieces.

  4. Dip fish into batter and shake off any excess.

  5. Carefully add the fish a few pieces at a time into the hot oil. Cook 3–5 minutes, turning once to brown evenly. The fish is done when it is golden brown and flakes easily with a fork.

  6. Drain the fried fish on paper towels.
