Cracker Barrel Ham and Red Eye Gravy

Cracker Barrel uses country ham. This is a lighter and less salty version of the original.


  • 1 (¼″-thick) ham steak
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 2 tablespoons strong black coffee
  • 4 tablespoons water
  1. Melt margarine in a skillet over medium heat.

  2. Add the ham and fry for 6–8 minutes until done. Remove ham from skillet.

  3. Add coffee and water to the ham juice.

  4. Bring to a boil. Serve the gravy over the ham steak.
