Fever
Fever is nature's way of indicating something is out of balance within the body. Homeostasis is affected. The cause of a fever could be an infection, either bacterial or viral. However, a fever may come from a heart attack, tumor, surgery, or trauma. A fever may be a reaction to a vaccine, or a reaction to the destruction of tissues due to x-rays.
Fever comes to assist cells that have ingested toxins. The fever-producing substance, pyrogen, stimulates the hypothalamus, which in turn works to regulate body temperature. The pyrogens work to destroy the bacterial or viral toxins, assisting in the production of infection-fighting cells. The fever increases the metabolism, causing the body to fight for balance quicker and harder.
The return of homeostasis is the ideal outcome of a fever. Reflexology can assist in working with the body to speed up this process. Once the cause of the fever has been determined, reflexology can integrate with other modalities, working to create harmony.
