Thumb Walking a Triangle

Look at the inside of the foot and use the bony malleolus as a guide. Place a finger from the very edge of the heel up to just under the outside edge of the ankle. With the other hand, place a finger from the inside edge of the malleolus back toward the upper arch. Let the thumbs join each other along the inside edge of the foot. The shape between these fingers is a triangle.

Working the Reproductive Reflexes

Within this triangle are most of the reproductive reflexes. Some of these reflexes you will pinpoint, others you will include in the thumb-walking technique. Look at the shape once more and remove the fingers, preparing to thumb walk. Begin with the right thumb and thumb walk up from the back of the heel to the outside of the malleolus. Keep moving the thumb in a bit and walk up so that the line continues to come from the inside edge of the foot up to the malleolus. Eventually using the right thumb becomes awkward, which is a sign to switch hands.

The left thumb walks the imaginary line that begins along the edge of the foot at the waistline. Thumb walk along this line to just under the upper edge of the malleolus. Continue to bring the thumb back to the edge and walk with small, slow bites up to the ankle, but not on the bone. Soon the entire triangle is filled.

The line that runs from the edge of the heel to the waistline is next. Thumb walk between these two points. Return to the edge of the heel, move the thumb in a bit, and walk again. You are filling in the area from the heel to the bone on the side of the foot, the tuberosity of the navicular.

Alert

Stimulation of the pelvic zone is not recommended until the end of the pregnancy. The mother-to-be's doctor should be aware of the treatment as should her midwife and any other medical professionals involved with her care.

The Reflexes of the Inner Triangle

There are many reflexes within this triangle. This area reflects the pelvic region of the body, including all structures found there. The area along the back edge of the heel has reflexes for the testes and lymph. Moving in a bit — just up from the inner edge but still close to the back — are two reflexes: one for the vaginal area and the other for the pelvic bones. The entire triangle is the reflex for the uterus.

The reflex for the rectum is a thumb joint in from the edge along the sciatic line. Thumb walking the triangle, from the heel, from the waistline, and filling in the whole area allows for complete coverage of all the reflexes. Other areas reflected here are the prostate gland and the urethra.
