Tapping

This is done with the tips of the fingers tapping along the bottom, edge, and top of the foot. Gentle, quick tapping movements assist circulation and again signal closure, either of the session or as a transition to the next area. Often one hand taps as the other supports the foot.

Tapping is used up the legs and is very effective on the hands as well. Heel pain generally comes from poor walking habits and long-term use of improper footgear. Tapping along the calf and the sides of the shin stimulates the tissue with increase in blood flow and nerve transmission.

Generally all the fingers are tapping together. The tapping may be done up and down the foot, usually on the sole, in a rhythmic style. When tapping on the top surface of the foot, most reflexologists tap from side to side, again using all the fingers at once.

You can see why short nails are imperative in this work. Imagine using any technique with long nails. Tapping along a person's feet or legs with long fingernails would feel painful and discourage further visits.
