The Extra Step

Consistently sending out mailers and making calls is a great way to stay in touch, but there is another way of staying in touch that will have even more impact. It is giving your time. Your time is the most valuable asset you have and it is the most cherished by those who receive it. Giving your time, not only to your volunteer organizations but also to your friends, family, and all the people in your sphere of influence, will do more to bring you referrals than any other activity. Set aside time each week to drop by and visit someone in your sphere at their home or business, bring a small gift such as a gourmet chocolate bar or a seasonal item (Fourth of July flag or Halloween pumpkin), and spend some time just listening to them. Let them know that you are never too busy for them and that you are never too busy for referrals. Not only will your personal contact help grow your business, but it will enrich your life as well.
