Working with the Public

When you interview agents about why they are in real estate they will often say, “I'm a people person.” Having a good understanding of people can help you succeed in sales, as it can help you succeed in virtually any endeavor.

Working with the public can be rewarding but it can also be trying. Realize that people are going to have their good days and their bad days. There will be times when they take out their bad days on you. Patience and understanding on your part will keep you from getting your feelings hurt while learning how to handle each situation.

You will work with people through what is often a stressful time. You will be helping them to make a correct decision about one of the greatest financial investments of their lives. They can get scared, angry, frustrated, and worried — often all at the same time! Being able to flow with the changes, as they go through the highs and lows of purchasing or selling (and sometimes both), will keep your stress level lower and easier to manage.
