Working in a Development

Does your town have one or more large developments where new homes are being built? The sales efforts for new homes in developments might be handled by the developer's staff agents or by a single real estate firm.

Working in a development is a great choice for agents who like to specialize. Homes are often somewhat similar, so it's easy to learn their features. Working in a development also cuts down your driving time and fuel expense and you can learn a great deal about home construction if your duties include selling homes that aren't yet built.

Alert

Some sales-related jobs in a real estate development do not require that you have a real estate license. Talk to several developers and real estate firms to become familiar with the types of opportunities available in your area.

A firm that specializes in a development also has a good chance of acquiring its resale listings when the houses are put on the market by their original owner. This is because owners often assume that the agency knows the area best and works with a large number of potential buyers.
