Special Training
The National Association of Residential Property Managers (NARPM) holds an annual convention for its members and gives them the opportunity to take one-and two-day property management classes. Classes cover issues such as operations, maintenance, marketing your listings, risk management, tenancy, and other important topics, and they allow individuals to obtain special designations.
Fact
Every major organization that offers special designations for its members also has a code of ethics that members are expected to follow. Your membership can be revoked if you violate an ethics code.
The organization offers three special designations. Designations are awarded in ascending order, as the agent takes classes and builds experience. Over and above the requirements for a real estate license, many states require additional education in order to engage in property management services.
Residential Management Professional (RMP)
Master Property Manager (MPM)
Certified Residential Property Manager (CRPM)
Property managers can often acquire training on a local level from the same licensing schools that conduct continuing-education classes for agents. Your firm might also provide in-house training to help teach you the business of property management. Some states also require additional licensing to become a property manager, so check your state's division of real estate to see what your state requires.
