The Final Decision

Once you have chosen a firm, make it an extension of your name: Anne Smith with Prudential or Jim Taylor with ABC Realty. As a new agent, connecting your name to a firm with a good reputation automatically gives you a good reputation, too. You can use the leverage of your firm's good name to help you with clients and customers. You may be new, but you have the power of an established company behind you.

If you have chosen a firm and discover early on that it may not be the right choice for you, think about why you want to make a move. If you are having a personality conflict with one of the other agents, you may want give it some time to cool down. Remember, every office is full of personalities.

When you make the choice to change offices, remember that any listings you have belong to your broker and will likely need to stay with the office you are leaving. You will have to rebuild any leads you have generated and retrain your friends and family to find you and send you referrals.

If promises were made to you but those promises are not kept, it may be the right decision to change offices. Carefully consider your motivations for moving and be completely sure that you are doing the right thing for your career. Loyalty and consistency are looked on favorably, so be sure you are totally ready to make the move.

Success involves more than money. A friendly work environment, excellent training, expense-sharing, and fair commissions all come together to create the best choice for your needs.
