Black Sesame Seed Gravy

This is a delicious sauce served over mashed taters (see Shepherd's Pie with Mashed Taters).

INGREDIENTS | SERVES 2

  • ½ cup black sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons finely sliced scallions, or minced red or white onion
  • 1 tablespoon nama shoyu
  • 1 cup chopped portobello mushrooms
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Water for blending
  1. Grind the sesame seeds into a powder with a coffee grinder or spice mill.

  2. Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Slowly pour in a little water until desired consistency is reached.
