Communicating with Other Parents
Now that your son is older, you probably do not have as much contact with other parents. It is still important to try to keep the lines of communication open. Your son will not be very helpful in this pursuit.
Talking to other parents will aid you in so many ways. It is a great way to find out what is going on in your son's life. You may call other parents for a variety of reasons, including:
To confirm plans
To discuss how school is going
To talk about problems between your teens
To help minimize manipulation
There may be times when you need to talk to other parents about unpleasant issues. Whether you are calling about problems your son is having with their child or something their child is doing, being nervous is normal.
Fact
If your son knows you talk with other parents, you reap the benefits. While outwardly he may tell you how it will ruin his reputation, it makes him be honest with you. He knows if he tries to hide something, his cover may be completely blown.
When talking to other parents, you should always tell them who you are and why you are calling. Explain the facts or ask your questions. Always be respectful. Even if you are really upset and know the facts without a doubt, being upset or loud will not help your situation.
Sometimes you will get the information you want and have a very productive conversation. However, the other parent may shut you down and refuse to talk to you. You cannot force others to talk to you. If you need to, you can ask for outside help. School counselors are good third parties you can appeal to for help.
