International adoptions have become more popular recently, partially because of the perception (not entirely wrong) that few babies are available domestically, and that there are many awaiting adoption in other countries. Some adoptive parents fear that U.S. birth families could find the child more readily and disrupt the adoption, even years later. Another reason for the escalating number of international adoptions is the spread of multiculturalism: More and more people are embracing the value of all peoples.
