A one-year-old doesn't know about nutrition or calories. A one-year-old thinks food is no different from anything else around him — a joyful science experiment just waiting to be played with in every way possible. Therefore, while he's busy having fun with his meals, you'll probably be trying to make sure his food is nutritious and that he's eating enough. If that sounds like a struggle just waiting to happen, rest assured that most one-year-olds eat plenty even though they mash their food, pile it, and move it around the plate.
