Japanese Sukiyaki
Sake, the Japanese version of rice wine, has a sweeter | flavor than Chinese rice wine. Sake can commonly be found in liquor stores.

1½ pounds sirloin steak
1 cup Kikkoman soy sauce
½ cup Japanese sake
6 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 green onions, thinly chopped
8 ounces fresh shiitake mushrooms, cleaned, stems removed
Preheat the grill. Cut the beef into thin strips about 3″ long.
In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce, sake, sugar, and chopped green onions. Pour half the mixture into a separate bowl. Add the thinly sliced beef and marinate for 10 minutes.
Heat the reserved half of the mixture in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Keep warm on low heat while the steak is cooking.
Thread the marinated beef and the mushrooms onto skewers. Cook for 5 minutes, turn, and grill for 5 more minutes
Serve the beef with the reserved heated marinade to use as a dipping sauce.
