Greens with Basil Dressing
The dressing can be served with any green or vegetable salad. It will keep, well covered, in the refrigerator for about 3 to 4 days.
SERVES 6
INGREDIENTS
- 8 cups salad greens
- ½ cup yogurt
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup buttermilk
- ⅓ cup chopped fresh basil leaves
- ½ teaspoon dried basil leaves
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon white pepper
Place salad greens in a serving bowl.
In a food processor or blender container, combine remaining ingredients. Process or blend until the basil leaves are very finely chopped.
Drizzle dressing over the salad, toss, and serve.
Fresh and Dried Herbs
Using fresh and dried herbs in the same recipe is an easy way to increase the depth of flavor. Many dried herbs taste different than their fresh counterparts. Dried basil, for instance, has a smokier flavor than fresh. And dried thyme has a more intense mint flavor, while the fresh tends to be more lemony.
