Hot Submarine Sandwiches

Use any combination of meats and cheeses for this easy and hearty sandwich recipe. Serve it with a deli fruit salad and a bakery pie for dessert.

SERVES 4–6

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 loaf Italian bread, unsliced
  • ⅓ cup honey mustard/mayo combo
  • ½ pound sliced deli ham
  • ½ pound sliced deli turkey
  • ½ pound sliced Muenster cheese
  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.

  2. Slice bread in half horizontally and place, cut sides up, on work surface. Spread cut surfaces with the honey mustard/mayo combo.

  3. Arrange ham, turkey, and Muenster cheese on bottom half of the bread, then top with second half. Wrap entire sandwich in foil.

  4. Bake for 20 to 23 minutes or until sandwich is hot, cheese is melted, and bread is toasted, opening foil for last 5 minutes of baking time to crisp bread.

  5. Slice into four to six portions and serve.

There are many types and varieties of mustard combinations in the grocery store these days. From honey mustard to grainy mustard to mustard and mayonnaise blends, there's a large selection to choose from. Keep a supply on hand for making sandwiches from just about any leftover meat.
