French Toast
Serve this crisp and creamy toast with maple syrup, powdered sugar, and some crisp bacon, cold orange juice, strong hot coffee, and a melon wedge or two.
SERVES 6
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup half-and-half or low-fat evaporated milk
- 1 egg, beaten
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 8 slices whole wheat bread
Preheat griddle over medium heat.
In a shallow casserole dish, combine half-and-half, egg, vanilla, and powdered sugar and beat until combined.
Melt butter on preheated griddle, then dip bread into egg mixture, coating both sides. Let the bread sit in the egg mixture for 1 minute. Immediately place onto sizzling butter on griddle.
Cook over medium heat for 6 to 9 minutes, turning once, until golden brown.
French Toast Toppings
You can top French Toast with any pancake or waffle topping. Offer heated maple syrup, several kinds of jam, heated fruit syrups, powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, and even peanut butter or Nutella spread. Or combine some fresh fruits with apple jelly and heat until warm.
