Toys and More Toys
Pug puppies are just as energetic as puppies of any other breed. An assortment of toys will help keep your pug pup active and entertained. Fleece toys are pug favorites. Many pugs love cuddling up to a soft stuffed toy, while others will aggressively shake it or toss it in the air. Expect to repair or replace soft toys frequently. No matter how well made, sharp puppy teeth can make short work of them. The best soft toys are free of bells, button eyes, or ribbons that can be chewed off and swallowed. If your pug loves squeaky toys, keep an eye on the toy's condition so he doesn't rip it open and remove or swallow the noisemaker inside.
Pugs aren't known for chasing balls or playing fetch, although there are a few exceptions. They prefer fuzzy squeaky toys to rubber or latex squeaky toys. As they grow older, toys become less important to them, and toy play often stops by two or three years of age.
Hard rubber chew toys are long lasting and help soothe the aches caused by teething. Stuff a hollow chew toy such as a Kong with peanut butter, or fill it with good-smelling treats to encourage your pug to gnaw on it. Avoid giving rawhides. Dogs tend to chew them up and swallow them in large pieces. The resulting diarrhea or intestinal obstruction is not fun to deal with.
