What Does the Breeder Think?
Listen to the breeder's advice. By the time you see the puppies, the breeder has been watching the litter closely for at least six weeks. She knows each puppy's personality and temperament. Tell the breeder exactly what you're looking for in a pug, and chances are she will match you with the perfect puppy. He might not be the puppy you were thinking of, but you'll be surprised to find that he is indeed just what you wanted. Now you just need to make sure the pup is healthy.
What are a puppy's parents called?
The father is referred to as the sire and the mother is called the dam. Both sire and dam should be at least two years old with health clearances before they're bred.
Ask if the puppies have been dewormed and vaccinated. By six to eight weeks of age, the pups should have been vaccinated at least once for distemper and parvovirus. In some areas where the incidence of parvo is high, two vaccinations may have been given.
