Know Before You Go
Before you leave the breeder's home, take notes on the puppy's eating schedule, the amount he eats, and his sleeping habits. Ask if he has any experience with potty training or knows any basic commands, such as “Sit.” These same questions apply if you're adopting an adult dog. You can do a better and faster job of teaching your pug pup the more you know about him.
The breeder should provide you with a puppy packet (as described in Chapter 6). Also, be sure to ask for an item that has the scent of Mom or the littermates on it to help keep your puppy calm during the adjustment.
The perfect time to take a pug pup home is when he's reached eight weeks of age.
