Go Places with Your Mind

It's time to try a little space travel. Before you begin, you need to know that each person experiences astral projection differently. That's a result of our differing mental makeup and sense perception abilities. (For a good review of your sensory abilities, refer to Chapter 5.) When you have an out-of-body experience, you may not be able to process your experience in all five senses — and that's okay. Your mind will make up for it in other ways.

Knowing how your senses can work for you may help give you more control in astral projection. You can tune them up or down, step back and observe, experience emotions, or control many other aspects of your out-of-body experience.

You May Begin

If you're ready, find a comfortable place to sit or lie down. You may want to try placing your body in a position that feels as though at any time you could be floating on your back. Lying on your back with your arms and legs spread apart may help produce the feeling of flying or floating on water. You may begin by breathing in and out slowly.

You may continue to take nice deep breaths as you feel yourself relaxing more and more. You may experience muscles that are stiff and muscles that are relaxed. Every time you feel a muscle stiffen up, you may relax it, as your entire body relaxes more and more.

You may now let your eyes close and focus on your third eye. As you connect, allow the peace and love of the Universe to flow through your third-eye chakra.

Take a moment, and enjoy this special feeling of peace and love as you continue to breathe in and out slowly. You may allow yourself to feel the Golden Light of the Universe begin to flow down through your body. As it works its way downward, you may feel the golden light opening and balancing the energy flow through each of your centers: the throat, the heart, the solar plexus, the navel, and the root. When you are ready, let the loving energy flow in and out of your body as your crown chakra opens to universal guidance.

Now, let yourself feel the golden bubble of the Universe totally surrounding your earthly body. Focus on your third eye, and feel the golden thread of the Universe grounding you and providing a secure tether to your earthly ties. You may feel safe and secure and fully protected by your universal beam of golden light. Let all of your five senses become aware as you experience peace and love and prepare to float up into the Universe.

Physical Astral Projection

When you are ready, allow yourself to focus on the beam of golden light. Let yourself feel its gentle pull as it slowly lifts you upward. You may feel the strength of the Universe as it begins to lift you up and up. You may experience this with all your senses: seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, and smelling. Feel your body lifting upward.

You may not feel your entire body lifting up. You may feel only your mental body as it leaves your physical body. In other words, you may feel a physical out-of-body experience or a mental out-of-body experience. One type of travel may work better for you than the other.

Let yourself float up a little at first, and feel both the lightness of your body and the positive tether that connects you to the ground and to the Universe. Look around and experience your new surroundings in all your five senses. Now let yourself float upward in the atmosphere. You may be aware that you are traveling through a tunnel or following a beam of light. You may ask that you go where you will be shown new insights that relate to your life map.

When you arrive, take some time to get acclimated. Let your five senses come into focus as you prepare to investigate. When you are ready to follow the golden tether back home again, take a deep breath, exhale, and return to your conscious mind filled with the peace and love of the Universe.

Always give yourself a suggestion when you are in your relaxed state of consciousness that all you have to do to stop the experience is follow your tether back to earth, take a deep breath, exhale, and open your eyes to be once again in a positive, peaceful, and loving state of consciousness.

Mental Astral Projection

To try mental astral projection, follow the same technique of relaxing, breathing, connecting to the Universal Flow, and opening and balancing your chakras. Once you feel centered and in tune, focus on your third eye and the golden tether that both grounds and guides you through your out-of-body experiences. Let yourself feel a part of your mental awareness that begins to float out of your body and upward into the atmosphere. You will feel complete freedom as you let yourself go higher and higher.

You may go along the golden tether out to the Akashic Book of Records or to other spiritual realms. You may go to a specific destination and observe the events that are taking place. You may visit time periods from the past or the future. You may meet with the masters of the collective unconsciousness in order to ask them for guidance in your life. When you're ready, you may return along the golden tether and back to your conscious world filled with the peace and love of the Universe.

Practice with a Friend

You might want to arrange to visit a friend through astral projection. Pick a time, and then try out your technique. You might not get a clear image at first, but be patient. Experience the visit in all of your five senses. When you have finished, make notes of what you experienced and check with your friend to see how close you were.

You can try both physical and mental astral projection. You can reverse roles and let your friend visit you. You may want to pick a place to meet and project yourselves there. You might try meeting in a past life or in the future. As you do, be sure to remember that you always keep yourself connected to the golden tether.
