Clear Vision

It's extremely important that everyone involved in the project has the same clear vision. Everyone should be able to clearly communicate the same goal or objective for the project. If the objective is vague or if anyone has a misconception of where the project is headed, encourage them to speak up before the wheels start rolling.

Contracts, project requests, charters, and statements of work are all written documents that include the details of a specific project in writing. Any such document serves as an important way of ensuring that everyone has the same understanding of the overall conditions of the project. Documents also serve as the primary resource if everyone has forgotten part of the original plan or if the team needs to verify anything.

Before you agree to proceed as project manager, consult with experts and team members to get a firm idea of how long each task will take. If you're planning a wedding, for example, you'll need to know how long the ceremony will run before you schedule the start of the wedding reception.
