Investigations of missing persons are usually known as domestic cases, although some missing persons have nothing to do with domestic situations. However, overlap of these investigations is common and investigative techniques are similar, so they have been included here together. This section outlines skip tracing, an investigative specialty that is about locating people who've skipped out on something or someone. Skip tracing is used in divorce cases, child custody cases, missing persons cases, adoption searches, and genealogy traces, both of which are discussed in this chapter.
