Earning a degree in criminal justice or a related area is not a requirement for becoming a PI. However, not only does a degree speed up the learning curve, it broadens opportunities in the field. A degree provides a platform that no amount of experience can match. Degrees boost resumes and confer legitimacy. In other words, clients like to see credentials, and while a degree is not absolutely necessary, it's beneficial in many ways.
