Doctor's Visits

If you've been diagnosed with a multiples' pregnancy, you'll be visiting your doctor more frequently. Although your appointment schedule will depend on your specific medical history and the risk factors involved in your pregnancy, you might be making the visit twice monthly in early pregnancy (as opposed to just a monthly visit for the first trimester with singleton pregnancies). Then you will shift to weekly visits early in the third trimester.

Diagnosis

While a number of symptoms and screening tests point to a multiples' pregnancy, a definitive diagnosis is usually made by ultrasound. During the ultrasound procedure, the technician will try to determine whether or not the fetuses are sharing a single amniotic sac, since this can put them at higher risk for some complications.
