Many women deliver their babies by cesarean section (C-section); in fact, national averages show that C-section accounts for 29 percent of all births. C-sections are surgical procedures that are recommended when vaginal birth is not possible, labor is not progressing, the baby is in distress, multiples are being born, or the mother's health is in danger. For many women, a C-section is not an ideal birth and can feel like something of a disappointment, while other women request C-sections without a medical reason. Each woman has her own reaction to and opinion about C-sections and should be permitted to make her own choice after receiving medical advice.
