Yoga Practice Choices
Yoga does not have to be done in a classroom, nor does it have to be done alone. There are a variety of ways to approach your yoga education.
Yoga Classes
There are plenty of yoga classes available in most cities. There are also more and more classes for pregnancy yoga. To find out what is available where you live, try looking up yoga in the phone book and calling some different centers.
If they do offer yoga classes specifically for pregnancy, ask about the class population. Is it made up of beginners? Or are a variety of levels taught in one class? Does the instructor have any specific pregnancy-related credentials?

While other exercise classes offer teachers with certification, there is no such thing as a national or international certification for a yoga instructor. This is partially because there are many forms of yoga and many different organizations. Look for an instructor with a long history of teaching. Ask to speak to other students in the class for their opinion.
Classes are nice because they offer a built-in support system and an instructor to help you answer questions and make suggestions. If the class is comprised of other pregnant women, it can really be helpful that you are all experiencing similar life changes. But classes are not necessary for the success of your yoga program.
Yoga Videos
Yoga videos can be another great way to experience yoga during pregnancy. There are many forms of yoga classes available on tape from a wide variety of instructors. Always try to get a reference for a good video from a yoga practitioner or even reviews of tapes. This can prevent you from going through several tapes trying to find the right fit.

When doing yoga on your own, make sure you choose a well-ventilated room for your practice sessions. Level flooring is also important to your balance issues. Bring any props you will need, such as a mat, strap, or blanket. The room should be free of distractions, drafts, and moisture.
Yoga Books
There are also many yoga books with sections on pregnancy and yoga. There are also quite a few yoga books specifically designed for pregnant women. Look for books with clear instructions and photos to help you. Also ask around to see what books others are using.
