Defining Fitness Levels

A fitness level is simply defined as what “shape” your body is in, meaning how fit you are on a cardiovascular level as well as your level of muscle tone. To gauge your fitness level, you might look at how often you exercise. Do you walk every day? Perhaps you take one aerobics class per week. Maybe you get in six exercise sessions a week and if you don't, you feel awful. Each of these categories would represent a different fitness level.

The importance of a fitness evaluation cannot be understated. Choosing a place to start your activity will depend largely on this evaluation. How successful and safe your performance is will also be attributed to the proper determination of your pre-pregnancy fitness level.

What if I've never worked out before?

Don't worry! There will be something for you to do as well. Many women start thinking about exercise as they start their families. You just need to be extra alert and careful about the exercises you choose and watch your body's reactions to those choices.
