What to Bring to the Interview
Once you are dressed appropriately, you are ready to walk into the interview with confidence. There are a few things you should always have with you. First and foremost, always bring along a few copies of your resume. The interviewer may want a fresh copy and you may be introduced to other people who will need a copy as well. In order to keep your resumes clean and neat, put them in a folder to transport them to the interview.
You may have a portfolio of work samples. If the interviewer has asked to see them or if you think they are noteworthy, bring them with you. Make sure they are neatly compiled and organized. They should represent your best work.
Arrange your work samples in a binder. The binder should be a conservative color, such as black or navy, and it should be in good condition. Insert your documents into plastic sheet protectors, which you can find at all office supply stores.
Always carry a pen and a small notebook in case there is something you want to jot down. Do not forget to bring your date book so you can schedule any future appointments.
Carry your resumes, portfolio, and other items in a briefcase. Women may also carry small purses. In general, though, you should travel light. Women should not carry large, bulky handbags or anything that looks better suited for a day at the beach. No one should carry a backpack, and shopping bags are definitely out.
