Special Considerations
If a child has diarrhea, a bladder infection, or an illness that prevents him from getting to the potty on time or at all, do not express displeasure or have him practice hurrying to the potty.
QUESTION?
How long should I use salty foods or liquid rewards?
After the first twenty-four hours of training, do not offer rewards that increase urination. Try stickers or candy instead.
During and after training, put children over thirty months of age to bed in underwear and a waterproof diaper cover, and protect the bed with a waterproof sheet. That way, they can easily remove their clothes if they feel well enough to go to the potty or if they awaken at night and need to use it. Put younger children to bed in diapers. They will continue to need adult help going to the potty anyway.
