Slow Learners
Stop the lessons if exhaustion sets in. Continue to check your child's pants every fifteen minutes for the rest of the day, expressing pleasure and giving a reward of a drink when she is dry, or changing her if she is wet or soiled. She can't learn if she's tired, so do not make any other demands.
Do not tell her to go to the potty. Just take her if it looks like she needs to use it.
Do not have her practice running to the potty after accidents. Just change her.
Describe everything she has done that was right.
Keep her in underwear or training pants, but put on a diaper cover if she is still having accidents.
If you stop the sessions for a nap or at bedtime, pick up where you left off when she awakens. For the next two days, check your child's pants (instead of having her check them) immediately after she awakens in the morning, before and after naps, before snacks, before lunch and dinner, and before bedtime.
