Unless you've had a home birth or birth-center birth, once you go home from the hospital you won't see your doctor or midwife again for six weeks. The six-week checkup is an opportunity for your care provider to monitor how you're healing from birth and to make sure you're adjusting well emotionally and physically to your new role as a mother. It's also a chance for you to ask your care provider questions about anything that might concern you, from bleeding, to sex, to diet and exercise, to breastfeeding.
