Take Advantage of This Time

The last weeks of pregnancy can seem unbearably long as you wait for your new baby to arrive. You may not be sleeping very well due to your size, and both you and your partner will probably be anxious, wondering when you are going to go into labor. While you may feel like all you want is to finally give birth, it's important to remember that this is a special time, like any other time in your pregnancy. Don't forget to take some time for yourself and also enjoy some alone time with your partner.

Take Time for Yourself

Unless your job is physically demanding or you have a health concern, it's probably fine to keep working right up until you go into labor. But just because you can work doesn't mean you should be spending every waking minute with work. It will probably be a long time before you will have this kind of freedom again. Go shopping, to a movie, or out to dinner all by yourself. Take nice long baths, get a pedicure, or enjoy a massage.

The first few weeks after the birth will be stressful while you and your partner adjust to your new lives as parents. There will be very few moments when you'll be without your baby in your arms during that time. You need to pamper yourself now, while you still have the ability to do so. It will make a big difference later.

Alert

Any massage therapist who works on pregnant women should be aware of proper positioning, vulnerable pressure points, unusually lax muscles and joints, and other concerns that are unique to pregnant women. If you get a massage during pregnancy, be sure you use a therapist who's experienced and qualified in giving pregnancy massage.

Take Time with Your Partner

Having a baby marks the end of you and your husband or partner being just a couple and the beginning of family life. You may find it difficult to get out without the baby, or you may not want to be anywhere without him for a long time. This is why it's important to spend some quality time together with your partner, just the two of you, in these final weeks of pregnancy. Go on a “date” to a movie or out to dinner, take a drive through a scenic area on a sunny day, or do something as simple as curling up together with good books on a stormy night. The experience will give you a romantic, warm memory to recall when the going gets tough during those first few weeks of parenthood.
