As your child grows older, your approaches to discipline must change in response. Your son or daughter develops greater capacity for language, for understanding, for judgment, for responsibility, for spending more time away from home, and for getting into normal trouble. Different techniques will work best with different ages. This chapter gives you an approximate schedule for changing your approaches to discipline as your child grows from infancy through adolescence. All the specific approaches mentioned have either been described more fully in previous chapters or will be discussed in those that follow.
