Preventing Separation Anxiety
All the attention you give your poodle in your effort to socialize him can backfire if he becomes so attached to you that he can't be comfortable when you're not around. You need to teach him that being alone is okay.
When you first bring your poodle puppy home, it's a great idea if you can take some time off work so that he doesn't have to spend long stretches of time alone, particularly when you're house-training him. However, make sure you give your poodle some time alone those first few weeks.
You can leave for a very short period of time at first. Just brightly say goodbye, put your poodle in his crate or long-term confinement area with a treat and a stuffed Kong and leave. (Don't smother him with kisses and hugs, or he'll miss you all the more.) Come back in ten minutes that first time and see if there's any evidence that he was stressed by your absence.
Essential
If you're not sure how your puppy reacts to being alone, you can leave a voice-activated tape recorder running while you're gone to see if he was barking. Or leave a video camera running for a real-time view of how he reacted to your leaving.
Increase the length of your trips outside the home, so that by the time you go back to work you're comfortable he's not going to carry on all day. When you get to the point where you're leaving your poodle four hours a day or more, give him plenty of exercise before you leave the house so that he'll snooze much of the time you're gone. Also make sure he has plenty to do while you're gone.
