Relief from Hot Spots
Raw, weepy spots on your poodle's skin, known as hot spots, are usually caused by the poodle himself. He gets an itch from something, like an allergic reaction to a fleabite, and licks it and chews on it until it's raw.
A healthy, natural way to provide him some relief and help make the hot spot go away is to make a paste from water and powdered bovine colostrum (available in powder and capsules at health food stores) and apply it directly on the hot spot. It will soothe and also help heal. Aloe gel (either from the health food store or directly from the plant) can also be soothing and healing. Clipping the fur around the hot spot can help it air out and stay dry.
Fact
A cone-shaped Elizabethan collar might stop your poodle from licking his hot spots, but in the long term, you should really concern yourself not with stopping her from licking, but rather with finding out why your poodle is getting hot spots. Then address the underlying problem.
